Feature request: Batch upload
« on: October 30, 2002, 01:31:12 PM »
Hallo,

Hello, first times groooosses praise to the developers of the Tools. Simply totally good, very versatile and fast Tool. We would have Verwendung for this Script in the company. Unfortunately we must uploaden fast rather many files. Here it concerns photos of tested construction units (approx. 40 per batch) the team to then make itself available is. If each photo is to be filled out with the minimum indication Uploadadresse, name, and category is clearly that too for a long time lasts. Perfect would be here the Batchupload with the unique indication of the Uploadverzeichnisses and the category. The picture name obviously necessary with the data base could be replaced by such a thing like Bild1, Bild2 etc.. The programming expenditure seems to me rather clearly and the time gained thereby quite largely

You can batch upload your images using FTP and then use the "Check New Images" function in the admin control panel.  This will batch process all the images you have uploaded.

To upload without automatic assignment to a 4images category, just upload the images to data/media and leave the category drop down at "No Category".

To upload and have 4images assign a category during the batch processing, upload the images to data/media/<category #> and set the category drop down to the category that corresponds to the category number.  You can find the category number that matches the category to be used by using the information from this post:  http://4homepages.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2422

You can also batch upload thumbnails in the same way.  Just give the thumbnails the same file name as the image and FTP them to data/thumbnails.  The same rule about category assignment applies.  Or you can let 4images generate the thumbnails automatically.

If you want to batch upload image descriptions, you can explore some of the plugins posted in other forums here or you can install and use phpMyAdmin from www.phpmyadmin.net and import a SQL file with the data.

Have fun!

Possile solution, but valid only for admins

Thanks for the tip uploading the file in batches.
Unfortunalety this is a method which will be used commonly by admins. The "usual" user wants to keep it simple. To establish a category, find out the category number, search with FTP (User:"What the hell is FTP???") the correct subfolder, copy the files, update database seems to have a lot of steps for a user to do before the pics are visible.
It would be more easy to tell the system a subdirectoy on local PC where to upload the photos and a category to upload to. This means two steps (establishing category and upload photos) for the user using one system instead of making a lot more steps using 4images and FTP.

I see.  You meant batch upload via HTTP using the browser.

Yeah, this would be a feature request.  I'm sure there's no support for it right now.

It's a pain in the a** to try to upload 980 photos from the browser.
